Fostex XR-7


The XR-7 is a multitracker noted for its diversified functions and high-level 
sound quality.

It combines a 4-track recorder and a mixer with six inputs for two mikes. This 
unit is equipped with two AUX sends (switchable)for each channel and an AUX 
return that provides two stereo systems for reception.

A two-point shelving equalizer equipped in channels 1 - 4 is enhanced in 
channels 5 - 6 by a single parametric equalizer. 

AA post-foldback send function enables additional effects for the foldback signal. 
The MIDI/TAPE multi-mix mode and a bi-alternate mix mode have been upgraded with 
an enhanced MIDI sequencer.

The first assignable parametric equalizer that facilitates mixdown is also 
incorporated. 

The enhanced mixer enables a wide range of effect processing The unit has six 
inputs which accommodate two mikes. Channels 5 - 6 enable mike input and are 
equipped with insertion terminals convenient for compressors, limiters and other 
devices.

Channels 5 - 6 are equipped with an adjustment trim level of range of -60 to 
-10dBV.

Channels 1 - 4 are equipped with a 2-point shelving equalizer. Channels 5 - 6 
contain a 2-point shelving equalizer and a single parametric equalizer to enable 
ideal sound production.

The first assignable parametric equalizer. It is highly useful for mixdown 
operations. The 2-point shelving equalizers and single parametric equalizer 
found in channels 5 - 6 enable production of high-level demonstration tapes 
because it can be used to switch the UR stereo buss (CH5:L, CH6:R) when the 
mixdown is performed.

Alternative AUX send with master VR which is indispensable for ambient signal 
processing is provided in each channel. In order to feed a signal processor 
output, two stereo AUX returns are also provided.

Channels 1 - 4 are also equipped with an alternate mix mode which selects and 
starts the input signal from the input jack or the tape play-back for the 
foldback and input fader. Numerous applications are possible by using the 
prefader effect send and in-line monitor as well as using the unit as a 
10-channel mixer.

A post foldback send function is equipped which realizes additional effects for 
the foldback signal. This enables new sound production possibilities such as 
applying reverb during monitoring tape.

The MIDI/TAPE multi-mix mode supports MIDI sync. Together with bi-alternate mix 
mode, all MIDI sound source output, tape playback sound and effect output can be 
mixed simultaneously in a single XR-7 while monitoring.

A foldback output terminal is equipped to enable sending the pre fader effect or 
monitor sending to the musician.

TAPE OUT 1 - 4 (terminal 4 also used for the SYNC terminal) are convenient for 
delay and chorus processing.

The 4-track recorder is capable of simultaneous 4-track recording. High-quality 
recording is enabled by the double-speed 3-3/4 ips tape speed which can be 
switched to 1-7/8 for practice. (The high speed setting is switchable by a 
combination press of the rehearsal and stop buttons.)

Dolby C (On/Off switchable) noise reduction is incorporated to ensure low-noise, 
pure recording.

The Punch In/Out function enables performance mistake correction and phrase 
insertion to be performed easily.

Punch In/ Out operations can be performed easily by foot by connecting the 
optional 8051 foot switch to the Punch In/Out jack on the front of the unit.

The rehearsal mode provides powerful support for the enhanced Punch In/Out 
function. (Only the monitor is switched and recording is not performed in this 
mode. This mode only operates at the 9.5cm/s speed.) A rehearsal which 
repeatedly performs the combination of zero return and auto play function is 
extremely convenient and ensures sound production that is highly complete.

A highly visible backlit LCD allows all XR-7 operation conditions to be verified 
in a single glance. Various operation settings such as the tape counter, tape 
speed, recorder transport ID, recording ready track, noise reduction, rehearsal 
mode and other settings are grouped together in a single display.

The pitch control mechanism enables variations in the tape speed of ±12%.
